Sacristans

May be of any age and either gender. All that counts is the ability to perform and enjoy the tasks. The role of sacristan was once reserved to the ordained. By this century, it had been taken over mostly by women. Boys were servers and girls were junior sacristans. Now all are welcome. Young and old, male and female. And the diversity of our individual gifts bring fresh approaches to this work.

If you would be interested in more information, stop by the office and read more about it. Office open 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Clothing and Supplies to Ghana

The Willapa Harbor knights of Columbus Council #1606 invites the St. Mary Parish to be a part of their ongoing project of shipping clothing and school supplies to Ghana.

We’re not famous, or rich like Oprah Winfrey, with the means to build an academy, but in our own small way we reach out to those who are less fortunate.

The Altar Society of St. Lawrence Parish selects appropriate clothing for this project when they hold their rummage sales.

In the fall of 2005, we shipped over 300 pounds of good quality shoes and clothing, our way of saying thank you to the people of Ghana for sending priests to serve in our archdiocese.

Recently,
Fr. Gillette was invited by one of our parishioners, Nancy Lewis, who teaches third grade in Raymond to speak to her class. The children were so touched when Father told them he didn’t have school shoes until he went to the seminary; they decided to collect school supplies and shoes to send to the school children in Fr. Gillette’s home-town. The children are earning money to help pay with shipping. Their items will be shipped along with the new and slightly-used clothing the Altar Society has collected.

Shipping can cost from $500 to $600, depending on how it is shipped. We are looking for the cheapest and safest route.

If you would like to help us, please mail a check, by the end of March, made out to:
