Adult Bible Study Classes: Bible study classes started again on June 19th. Classes are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Classes start at 9:45 am until 11:00 am. Mike King is teaching the classes as his health has improved. We will start with the Book of Joshua. Bring your bibles and lesson sheets from previous classes, if you have them. If you have any questions, please contact Pat Cook at 642-2263.

The comments about our weed garden around the church and parish house and office are really cute. But wouldn’t it be nice to get to say how nice our flowers and greenery look at St. Mary’s?

“Next weekend, we will be taking up the Peter’s Pence special collection, which supports the spiritual and charitable works of the Holy Father. This year’s theme is ‘Let us make sure that none of God’s children ever feels alone.’ Next weekend, united with the Holy Father and Catholics throughout the world, we have the chance to do just that. I hope this week you will generously consider your contribution to the Peter’s Pence collection, another act of good stewardship.”

From Laura Schott: This parish community has seen me grow up and has always been there for me. Now, that i’ve graduated and am getting ready to start a new chapter in my life, I realize how much I’m going to miss this parish and it’s wonderful parishioners. I am very grateful that I had the opportunity to grow up as part of this church community. Everybody I’m sure, has taught me very valuable lessons that I will carry with me. I’ve had a great time and please pray for me as I get ready to leave for the University of Washington. Thank you and God Bless.
Sincerely,
Laura Schott

Celebrate the Parish Hall Remodel
Your Parish Council is cooking breakfast! Sunday, June 3rd after 8:30 am Mass. Help us celebrate the Parish Hall remodel and thank Wilson Construction for their outstanding job.

Safe Environment Program
The Archdiocese of Seattle is launching an expanded Safe Environment Program and is looking for qualified volunteers to be trainers who will facilitate child abuse prevention trainings for clergy, employees, volunteers and youth.

There is no particular education background needed to be a Called to Protect but applicants should be committed to sexual abuse prevention, comfortable speaking to groups, able to maintain confidentiality and able to make a commitment of 2-4 trainings a month. Teachers, counselors, case workers or health-care professionals make great trainers, as well.
For more information, please contact the parish office.

Volunteers are needed to clean the McGowan Church before the start of the summer season. Please call the office at 642-2002 for more information.

Save the date! On June 17, after the Sunday 8:30 a.m. Mass, we will have a Parish Father’s Day Potluck featuring Mexican Food. More details later.

Having a family like the Betts move from our church community and join another will be difficult. But we wish Kyle, his lovely wife Nicole and loving daughter Kassie, that they will be received and welcomed with loving kindness. With all the help they and their friends in the Coast Guard have given to us and all the community, they will be truly missed. May they bring as much joy and happiness to their new church and Coast Guard community as they have shared with us.

On Sunday, May 13, six of our children will receive their First Communion at the 8:30 Mass. They are: Aliza Bannister, Ethan Bannister, Jessica Encinas, Derek Bravo, Michael Neuhaus, and Ben Lopez. The children will participate in the Mass and will receive their certificates at the Mass. All are invited to share in their special day at the reception following Mass in the Hall. Please pray for these and all the children in our parish. A special thank you goes to Irma Moreno and her daughter, Adrianne, for all the time they have contributed to prepare the children for this most blessed sacrament.

The new “Policy for Prevention of Sexual Abuse” is now available in the Parish Office. You are welcome to stop by the office and read it through and I will answer any questions you may have. If I don’t know we can call and find the answer through the Human Resource Department.

Agnes Sauers, RIP

The Altar Society is in need of a new treasurer. Pat Wald, our current treasurer, is moving out of the area at the end of May. She will be glad to help someone else learn the job. Please search your soul and help us out.

The May meeting of the Altar Society will be a Baby Shower to help out the Pregnancy Center. It will be a potluck.

The Fourth Sunday in the Octave of Easter is also the day that has been designated as “World Day of Prayer for Vocations.” Prayers for vocations to the Priesthood and the religious life should be in our thought and brought to mind often.

The Congregation for Divine Worship decreed on May 23, 2000 that “throughout the world, the Second Sunday of Easter will receive the name Divine Mercy Sunday, a perennial invitation to the Christian world to face, with confidence in divine benevolence, the difficulties and trials that humankind will experience in the years to come.” Devotion to the Divine Mercy was promoted by St. Faustina Kowalska, canonized.
